What does "Clean Candles" mean?

Our slogan is simple: Clean candles. Crass Humor.

That first part is the most important to us. We want you to have peace of mind using our candles in your homes and around your families.

We have always been committed to using the safest, highest quality, most thoroughly tested candles in the industry. That's why we continue to use fragrance oils that are Clean Scents certified from CandleScience. CandleScience is one of the leading fragrance oil brands in the business and their oils are 100% phthalate free.

In the past few years, researchers have linked phthalates to asthma, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, breast cancer, obesity and type II diabetes, low IQ, neurodevelopmental issues, behavioral issues, autism spectrum disorders, altered reproductive development and male fertility issues.

You may already be familiar with their exclusion of phthalates, but they also exclude materials with similar health concerns, including those on California’s Prop 65 list. You can find out more information about that here.

Fragrance oils and candles should always exclude: 

✖ Carcinogens: These are materials known or thought to cause cancer.
✖ Mutagens: Materials that change the DNA of a cell, harming the cell and causing diseases like cancer.
✖ Reproductive toxins: Toxins that adversely affect reproductive organs and increase the risk of birth defects.
✖ Organ toxins: These are toxins that can cause adverse effects or disease within specific bodily organs.
✖ Acute toxins: Toxins that can cause adverse effects from a single exposure. Generally, this would be accidental exposure like spillage or ingestion.

And yes, these toxins are found in some products we use every day! Scary, right? We tend to only worry about things we put IN our bodies but not ON or AROUND them. Rest assured, your Crass Candles are as safe as can be.
